One Day at a Time

The whole "take it one day at a time" thing is really working for us.  Daddy has been gone approximately 70 hours now and while it's been a lot of work, it's been fun too.

We saw an ambulance yesterday and Blaine said, "I hope that ambulance isn't going to get Daddy. I hope he's not dead."  DEAD?  Good heavens boy, where did you get that idea?  After explaining to him that daddy was alive and well just really, really far away he casually changed the subject.  When Blaine talks to David on the phone he asks him very important questions like:

1. Are you sleeping right now, Daddy? (at 3:00pm in the afternoon, mind you)
2. Are there are a lot of people there?
3. Are you in your bed, Daddy?
4. What are your work friends doing, Daddy?

(and then one that I also ask:)

5. When are you coming HOME, Daddy!?!

We've had something planned every afternoon after school so we haven't had a chance to sit at home and mope or have any major tantrums due to boredom.  After our activity, we head straight home for dinner, bath and bed and then we do it all over again the next day.  Hannah continues to find anything that resembles a phone (remote control, for example), holds it up to her ear and screams, "AaaDa!"  (What she calls Daddy.)  She really wants to talk to him on the phone and I'm sure see him but he's been working 10-12 hour days up there in the big city, so Hannah's having to wait.

A friend came over last night to help me with dinner and bath time.  She brought her 4 year old son over too so Blaine had a playmate for an hour or so.  Then after bath time Mister requested that my other friend read to him (Ms. Audi) so I totally got out of dishes (thanks, Tristi) and reading (thanks, Audi) last night.  A pretty sweet deal if you ask me.  And since Blaine has been scared at bedtime lately he decided to sleep in his doorway on the hard, cold, wood floor where there was more light and then about ten minutes into that idea he told me that he thought he should go back to his 'warm' bed.  Good idea, Son.  I surrounded him with his favorite stuffed animals for protection against the "scariness" and Mister fell fast asleep.

So, we're getting along just fine but I do have one question for you Daddy...

"When are you coming HOME!?!"

Miss you...
