We spent almost the entire weekend, including Memorial Day, getting ready for Hannah's party which is this weekend. I actually had to work (at my job) on Monday but since I like what I do and I had Friday off, I didn't mind. David took Blaine to an indoor playscape and played dad to almost 12 kids (he said.) Blaine shared his daddy with the other kids as they all played "Monster" which I heard involved a lot of chasing and running away :)
We made a mediocre meal on Monday afternoon. I didn't season the steaks right or the potatoes so they were bland and boring and David managed to grill us blackened shrimp (if you know what I mean by "blackened"). We both thought the rolls were good though. After our attempt to grill out on Memorial Day, David took Blaine to a water park in Round Rock while Hanny and I finished cleaning the house and took naps (I cleaned, Hanny napped.) The boys finished out their evening at one of D's favorite restaurants, The Olive Garden, and headed home for bed.
Today, I don't really know what day it is. For half of the day I thought it was Monday but then the other half of the day I thought it was Wednesday. I guess it's Tuesday which means we have three more days to prepare for a house full of party animals. We're looking forward to the party!
One exciting thing that happened today was Blaine had his first gymnastics class. I have been looking for classes for him for some time now. He requires constant stimulation and activity and since soccer was a bust we are moving on to some other sports. The class was 45 minutes long (awesome), I get to sit behind a window and observe (YES!), and there are only three other kids in his class (Score!). He loved it, but then again he loved his first soccer practice too. His teacher's name is Kaitlyn and he seemed to take to her right away, so I was happy about that. They used the trampoline, tumbled on mats, practiced their cart-wheels and even did some stretching at the beginning, which was pretty funny to watch. He said he wants to go back. We'll find out next week.
The other thing I signed him up for are private swim lessons. They were a little more expensive than group lessons but I wasn't that pleased with the YMCA's lessons (too many kids in a class and not challenging enough) and we think he'll improve more quickly if he has some one on one attention. Currently he is excellent in the water. He can swim probably 20+ feet on his own, under water and sometimes even comes up for air and goes back under. We are very comfortable with him being in the water but we feel like he needs instruction on technique now and just more intentional practice. He absolutely loves the water so we think he'll like this one on one attention with an instructor.
Other big news in the Lyon home has to do with David's job. ProfitFuel has been acquired by Yodle which means big changes for David. He'll be moving out of the Director of Client services position in the next few weeks and will be moving into a position as a National Account Manager. This move is requiring him to go to New York City for 6 days. He leaves in less than two weeks. While this is a huge opportunity for him and one we are very excited about I am dreading the travel he will have to do, starting with this NYC trip. Here is why:
1. We've been married for almost 5 years, together for almost 8, and the longest we've been apart is about 4 days. Tug will definitely be sleeping with me while D's away. Gross, but necessary.
2. Taking care of our two kids requires team work and David plays a huge roll in the kids' lives. He baths, feeds, plays with and most importantly loves on them from the minute he gets home to the minute they go to sleep. Blaine, especially, needs lots of David's attention so that week is going to be hard on our Mister. In fact, tonight David had to go to a business dinner so he didn't come home until right before Blaine's bed time. Blaine knew that Daddy was getting home late but he kept asking when he'd be home. Then he started crying and said to me, "Daddy isn't coming home, he's been killed." I am not kidding you - that's what he said. I rocked him and told him that that wasn't true, that Daddy was just at dinner with his work friends. He insisted a few more times and then I started the Tickle Torture game and all was back to normal.
What is amazing though, after sharing this news with several people, is that I've had a few friends offer to bring us dinner, come over and help with bed time and do whatever else I need help with. Isn't that sweet? I am so blessed with good friends. Thanks guys and gals!
That's about all for now. Happy Monday, I mean Wednesday... Tuesday! ;)

ProfitFuel
A lot of people ask David where he works and what he does. This corporate video tells some of the story. You won't see David in this video because the day they were filming he was in the hospital with me welcoming Ms. Hannah into the world.
