The Lone Rock

Blaine has been irritable for some time now.  Usually when he's irritable (and whiny and making all kinds of bad choices) he is sick.  He usually gets all crazy and then starts having accidents and then he tells us that his ear hurts or he starts throwing up and we discover why he was acting that way.

This time around was no different... A bad attitude, followed by days of accidents (#2 accidents to be specific - but you don't want to know the gory details of this, I'm sure.)  We were certain that an ear infection was brewing.

My friend Kari came over last night for dinner and as we discussed Blaine's behavior and accidents she suggested that he might have an obstruction, which is why he's acting up and having these weird accidents.  To tell you the truth, I thought about it before, but because he didn't have a distended stomach and wasn't complaining too badly I dismissed it.

Today was pretty good for Mister, but he did have a few accidents when we got home from school.  We put him on the toilet every time and he claimed (with tears) that he "didn't have to go".  David even tried reading "Yertle the Turtle" to him while he sat on the john.  Finally, after several hours of pleading, bargaining, and crying Blaine ran to the toilet and announced his accomplishment.

Let's just say that the boy was backed up.  And the source of all his problems:

A rock.

Yes, a rock.  Our (almost) three year old son swallowed a rock and it has wreaked havoc on our lives for the last week.

I am so glad Kari encouraged me to go get some prune juice, which we did today.  He drank a ton of it this afternoon and the lone rock made his exit this evening.
