18 Months Old

Blaine turned 18 months old on Saturday, August 22nd. I just can't believe he is so big and developed and smart (and cranky sometimes!)

We went to the doctor today and he is developing right on target. (Papa Gay got to go with us too - that was fun for Blaine.)

Height: 33.5 inches: 80th percentile (wow! we still don't know where he's getting this height from!)

Weight: 26 lbs 6 oz: 60th percentile (His height to weight ratio explains why he's wearing 12 month (sized) pants and 18 -24 month (sized) shirts. Pants fall off him and he has this long body and arms that need that extra room on top.)

Head circumference: 48.8 cm: 75th percentile (whoa - the kid has a huge brain!)

Some questions I asked:

1. What's up with the bull-legged thing? Normal. In fact, she said he's super flexible and asked him if he was going to be a gymnast someday :)
2. What's up with B walking on his toes all the time? Normal - until he's two. He's still testing out his feet.
3. When will the temper tantrums stop? When he moves out. (Sweet.)

Dr. Jones asked if he was saying 4-6 words and both Papa and I chuckled and I responded that he says about 50 + words. He used about 10 just in the short time we were with the Dr., so she knew we were not teasing. She said we should begin to encourage him to say 2-3 word phrases (which we've already started) but he's happy with one word demands at this point :).

We talked about potty training. Blaine tells us when he is going to "poo-poo" and when he's in the bath tub he tells us when he's going to "pee-pee" so she thinks he is ready to start potty training. She gave us a few hints and pointers and we'll start that this week.

Blaine has 12 teeth right now and his canines have poked through so we're working on a mouthful now. We were also told he'll have his back teeth until he's 10 or 11 years of age so we'll need to keep up with the brushing on a daily basis.

He got his first Polio shot today and his last Tetanus shot (this was the not-so-fun part of our visit).
