We had a pretty busy week. Keith finally got out of the hopsital on Tuesday afternoon just in time to attend a dinner where he was being honored with a special award. The Dispute Resolution Center here in Austin awarded Keith the International Peacemaker Award for his years of service working overseas with groups of people to resolve conflict (within and among individuals.) David and I were so grateful to be there and he certainly deserved the recognition. Thanks to Aunt Marcia for watching our munchkins :)
4:00 am Wednesday morning rolled around pretty quickly when David had to leave for Las Vegas and a three day work trip. After having been away from school all of last week and having D out of town for so long, Blaine's adjustment to school this past week was a recipe for Mister Disaster. He struggled at school so badly that I was called in to pick him up early on two different days. We're in the process of working with his OT to make a home plan for his occupational therapy that we can do every day before or after school to help him adjust and make better choices (and recognize his needs) throughout the day. He is certainly making huge improvements but during weeks like this when all that hard work (O.T, GF diet, our consistency at home) seems to be wasted the situation gets pretty frustrating.
Mister was a big help today when he came home early - he folded laundry, emptied the dishwasher, and cleaned up his messes. It was great!
He has really been praying for Keith a lot, which has been super sweet and adorable. He even talks to him on the phone and tells Keith that he is "praying to Jesus for him" and my favorite line, "I love you Keith Miller." These conversations make Keith and anyone in earshot bawl their eyes out!
One funny thing Mister has thought up recently is him telling us what his belly thinks. For example:
"Mama, my belly is telling me that it does not want to eat your dinner, it wants macaroni and cheese instead."
or
"Mama, my belly is saying that it wants a different dessert." (After his current dessert is 75% gone!)
and
"Mama, my belly is still sooooooo hungry. It needs something else." And then this is repeated about four times until it's time for bed.
Sister continues to be a hoot. I don't know if I have mentioned this before today, but she can blow her nose. We just got Blaine to blow his nose after he turned three and she started blowing hers at 16 months old. That has to be some kind of record, right? :) She is saying so many words now and is totally addicted to her ba-ba (paci) so breaking her of that (soon) is not going to be pretty. Perhaps I need to go on a work trip and D can take care of that little ba-ba problem :)
Here we are trying to take some pictures but someone was not cooperating...
